The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Mattias Ekholm and a sixth-round draft pick in 2024 from the Nashville Predators for defenseman Tyson Barrie, winger Reid Schaefer, a first-round draft pick in 2023 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2024. |
Ekholm notched an assist, three shots on goal and two blocked shots in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Golden Knights.
Ekholm scored a power-play goal on two shots and went minus-3 in Monday's 6-1 loss to the Blue Jackets.
Is not the most physical defenseman in the NHL despite his size, but he does a lot of other things effectively to keep the puck out of his team's net. He moves the puck well, has a big shot and knows how and where to move the puck. Is capable of playing huge minutes, especially on the penalty kill. He is not flashy, but does not make a lot of mistakes. He is as low-maintenance as they come.
Long Range Potential: Reliable, rock-solid defenseman.
